August 2015 Monthly Favorites: Beauty Edit

august 2015 beauty trends

1. Urban Decay 'Naked Skin' Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup.
No foundation has ever impressed me like this one. I was using Make Up Forever's Matte Velvet Foundation, but after a while, it would oxidize on my skin and turn it orange. Eww, no bueno. When I went to Ulta, I asked for a weightless, camera ready foundation, that didn't oxidize, and this is where they lead me. Everything about that description is true; It comes out like water, goes on super smooth, and looks amazing on camera!

2. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer.
At around $7 per tube, you cannot beat this concealer for your under eyes. I've seen a lot of beauty bloggers & vloggers {including my upstate girl, Mahlon} compare it to Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and not be able to tell a difference. It creases a little on me, but nothing crazy, and covers the dark circles under my eyes well.

3. Miss Dior Perfume.
I wore this perfume on my wedding day almost two years ago. {two years?! Crazy!} I've thrown it back into my rotation recently, and it still makes my heart sink every time I smell it.

4. Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment.
I know; super random, right? But ironically, after I posted my skincare routine, I started to get a few more breakouts than usual, and this stuff saved my skin! Thank Jesus for this little $4 bottle of miracles.

5. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Topcoat.
I can't stand to paint my nails. Mostly because I'm OCD, causing it to be very time consuming, and it still looks like a 4 year old did a hack job on my nails. I generally have to spend the money on the expensive nail polishes because they leave a little more wiggle room for error. That was, until this top coat. Even the $1 bottle of nail polish will look good once you put this on top. It makes your nails so thick, so shiny, and covers all of your imperfections. No heat lamp required.

6. Tresemme Keratin Infusing Smoothing Serum.
For a drugstore hair care product, this stuff really delivers. If anything promises shine, I usually pick it up, but nothing this inexpensive has ever actually worked for me like this serum. Just a couple of pumps distributed through your ends and you're a shiny goddess. Good to go.

If you know me, you know that I have a little hippie in me, and my style sometimes, is no different. I love anything 70's/hippie/boho chic; even music. I blame my mother. She burned Abba and The Bee Gees into my brain at a very early age.

Although difficult to iron, this top is probably one of my favorites in my closet right now. I love the loose sleeves and the cinching at the top of the waist. Is it weird that its fit just makes me want to dance? Come on, who doesn't want to spin around in such a flowy top? Don't lie, you know you would too.

There's something about flare legs, high neck tops, and bell sleeves, that has me itching for the weather to chill out. Speaking of flares, I initially planned to wear these but, they haven't arrived yet and I was tired of waiting. Patience is a virtue, that I do not possess.

Time to bring myself back into this decade with a bag of popcorn and the VMA's. The Weeknd's new album is giving me life right now and I can't wait for his performance! Seriously go download it and be sure to listen to "Dark Times" with Ed Sheeran! Legit the best music I've heard in a long time!

friyay favorites no. four

Sweater: Old Navy {similar here} | Jeans: Express | Notebook: Minted

It's been super chill in the mornings the past few days and I can't help but want to make some of Courtney's pumpkin banana bread. It's my favorite!

Love this sweater on Alyson! I'm really diggin' polka dots for Fall.

Adding this tote to my Fall collection ASAP. Can't turn down that price tag.

Taylor Swift + Lisa Kudrow + Smelly Cat = All of my dreams coming true. I WANT TICKETS FOR MY BIRTHDAY.

ICYMI, I shared my skincare routine with y'all on Wednesday.

"God doesn’t promise to save us from the flames. But He has promised to be with us as we walk through the fire." - Thank you, SRT. Preach.

This weekend is "THE BEST WEEKEND EVER" at our church. If you're local or near any of our campuses, I would love for you to join me! You can find service times here.

Matt and I are going to play at Gravitopia this weekend and I can hardly contain my excitement. Can I just be a kid again? I'll be snapping our adventures, if you wanna follow along. {absumner} Have a fun weekend, lovelies!

Current Skincare Routine

Being a new blogger, I haven't really had any requests for specific blog posts, but surprisingly, a few of you have asked me about the skincare products I use. I don't have one specific brand I'm committed to, and I use an array of products, so I thought it best for me to share everything in one blog post. Before I begin, I should mention that I have combination to oily skin with anti-aging concerns. What works for me, may not work for you, but these are my favorites!

1. Dermalogica Medibac Clearing Skin Wash. Up until 25 I washed my face with Dove bar soap. I had what I considered "perfect" skin therefore, I never felt the need to spend the money on a cleanser. Then, hormone imbalances started to occur and I was breaking out all over my chin and jaw line. This face wash is made specifically for hormonal acne in adults and I've never used anything like it. I tried dropping it to only use my Purity, but as soon as I did, my face began to have the appearance of a 12 year old again. Since then I use it every morning, and I don't think I'll ever stop.

2. Neutrogena Rapid Repair Wrinkle Eye Cream. I've got legit bags under my eyes 99% of the time. I've tried countless products and nothing seems to make them any less scary except for this Neutrogena eye cream. I'm fairly certain that the bags {and smiling eye wrinkles} are genetic, but this product does seem to help. Best part? It's a drug store product with a drug store price tag. Can't beat it!

3. Algenist Retinol Firming & Lifting Serum. I have intense wrinkles between my eyes. You know, the "11 lines"? I've been using this serum, only between my eyes, to help with these and hopefully prevent them from getting worse. If I use it on my face, it does cause breakouts, but it seems to do really well for my RBF.

4. Algenist Firming and Lifting Cream. This cream has a pretty hefty price tag {along with the serum} but I really, really love it. I've noticed a huge different in my skin since I started using it about two months ago. If anything, I do believe it's preventing future wrinkles and my skin has never been more soft.

5. Philosophy Purity One Step Facial Cleanser. This is my ride or die. I double cleanse with this cleanser every night and I swear by it. First, I use my hands to wash all of my make-up off and then I use my Clarisonic to remove the remaining germs and bacteria. No other cleanser removes my eye make-up as easily {and without burning or irritation}, and it's never caused a breakout.

6. Ole Henriksen Power Peel. Y'all, this stuff is a miracle worker. A friend of mine convinced me to order it as an alternative to an expensive and harsh chemical peel when I had an uneven skin tone and scarring from all the acne I was blessed with at 25. It works. You can tell a difference after your first use. My skin was softer and more even, and if I go too long without it I start to get a little more texture than I like on my face. I use it every other week and that's all I need!

7. Mederma Advanced Scar Therapy. Now I know this is super random but, as I mentioned before, with all of those breakouts came scarring. I was so self conscious until I started using Mederma. It seriously got rid of every scar I had, and now I use it after any sort of breakout heals to make sure there is no more scarring. A little goes a long way, I've had the same tube for almost 3 years.

8. Dr. Jart+ All That Lift and Firm Sheet Mask. This isn't your typical sheet mask. It has a gel consistency and really clings to your skin. I've used countless sheet masks and these are the absolute best. The very first time I used one, I took a before and after picture of the wrinkles between my eyes and there was a huge difference in visibility. I've used it every week since!

9. Philosophy Purity One Step Facial Cleansing Cloths. These are pretty self explanatory. I love the cleanser so much that I purchased these to use for a quick refresher. They're great for after a work-out at the gym, but I would still wash my face when I got home. They aren't a replacement for the cleanser, but are nice to have on the go.

Also unpictured is SPF. I don't lay out in the Sun {spray tan all the way!} but I always make sure to wear SPF. Luckily my favorite BB cream always has me covered.

I know some of these products are pricey, but I've tried everything and one thing I'm willing to spend a little extra money on is skincare. It's an investment that will last a lifetime.

Dress: Two Doors Down Boutique {also here} | Hat: Express {similar here & here} | Booties: Target

Matt and I had the best time shooting this look at SkyTop Orchard in Flat Rock, NC. We spent our Saturday picking apples, eating mouthwatering apple cider doughnuts, and exploring. If you're ever in the area, you'll definitely want to make the trip to SkyTop. The incredible mountain views and delicious doughnuts alone are worth the trip!

This gorgeous plaid shirt dress is from my favorite boutique in downtown Spartanburg. Two Doors Down never disappoints; this is probably my favorite Fall purchase so far! I can't wait to pair it with a fur vest and riding boots!

In true Amanda fashion, I also have my eye on a few more shirt dresses and pairs of booties. I've linked some of my favorites below. I hope everyone has a great week! I have a lot of fun stuff going on, and I'm really looking forward to it!

friyay favorites no. three

Some spot on beauty tips from the week courtesy of The Sweetest Thing & Harper's Bazaar.

Mackenzie has basically laid out your Fall wardrobe for you. No matter your budget.

He Reads Truth debuted this week. She Reads Truth is my absolute favorite devotional and I love that there is a place for Matt to follow along with me now.

Kathie Lee Gifford's tribute to her husband is heart warming and beautiful.

This Design Darling print Katey shared on twitter. A bar cart must have!

Lulu & Georgia's best selling doormats are back in stock! Plus, there are some adorable new arrivals! I ordered the "Hello There" rug for our new house. (The new house we haven't found yet, btw. House hunting is the worst.)

Can someone buy me this bag? And this one? And maayyybe this one? Chanel taste on a Target budget over here.

ICYMI: I shared the best Fall Jackets on Wednesday. Get to shoppin'!

I hope y'all have a fun weekend! See you Monday!

So clearly there's nothing super special about this top, except for the fact that it's only nine dollars and when I bought it, it was five. I can't even pay for my Starbucks with five dollars. But these jeans, y'all. Ginuwine would sing about these jeans. They're girlfriend jeans, not to be confused with boyfriends. I'm constantly pulling on saggy boyfriend jeans because I can't stand to feel like my pants are falling off. These fit like a glove, but still give you the relaxed edge you would want out of boyfriends.

My best friend bought me these shoes years ago, but I'm really diggin' the olive + blush combo so I figured it was time to bring them out of hiding.

Also, side note: sorry for the quality of these pictures! Matt and I tried playing with the settings on our camera and I'm just not feeling these. Oh well,
we're learning!

friyay favorites no. two

better days are coming they are called saturday and sunday

TGIF, y'all. TGIF.

BOLO for a fun outfit post featuring these babies. I walked into Dillard's looking for a completely different pair of shoes but I can never resist a good leopard print. It is my favorite neutral, after all.

This devotion from Tuesday was too good not to share.

The Jaclyn Hill Starbucks drink. A grande iced passion tea lemonade, sweetened, with one pump of raspberry syrup. Seriously, try it. I'm addicted.

Apparently my girl Britney Spears is killin' it in Vegas. Can someone buy me tickets? You better werk.

34 Unforgettable back-to-school things all 90's teenage girls did. Buzzfeed nails it. Gimme those jelly roll pens and Steve Maddens.

Want to try the half bun trend? This article is for you.

Brent Beshore gets me. Don't be tardy for the party, people.

I hope y'all enjoy these Friyay Favorites. I would love to hear your feedback. If there's anything you would like to see on the blog, or even something you aren't enjoying, feel free to get in touch with me at any of the links below. Have a good weekend!

Top: Express | Jeans: Express | Flats: Nordstrom | Sunglasses: Nordstrom {similar, less expensive pair here} | Tote: Nordstrom {under $50! also love this one} | Earrings: Baublebar

The time between seasons is one of the most difficult for me to shop. I want to purchase Fall's new arrivals but living in the South means I won't be able to wear most of them for a while. Usually, I just stick to basics that I can wear all year round until I can guarantee the absence of a sweat fest. Ew, anyway. Pairing navy and white stripes with leopard is one of my favorite ways to mix prints and this top is a necessary basic for under $20! Express' One Eleven collections materials are so soft that the price tag is almost too good to be true!

Express jeans are the only brand of jeans I own. Seriously, I don't have one other brand in my closet. When I find something that works for me I usually stick with it. These are insanely comfortable and this outfit would be perfect for running errands or a week night date with your girlfriends. These, these, and these are some other favorites I've purchased.

No outfit is complete without accessories. This tote is reversible, comes in a ton of colors, and would even make a fun diaper bag for all my baby Mamas out there.

Be sure to subscribe here for weekly posts. I'll be back Friday with some favorites from the week!

Unless I'm the only blog you follow, you've probably seen this tunic before. It was a steal during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and everyone went crazy over it, myself included. Back in the day, I had a Lauren Conrad tunic super similar that Matt used to call "old faithful". It was my favorite shirt and if "I had nothing to wear", it was my go to. Unfortunately, that tunic went missing and I've been trying to find one to replace it for years. It may have taken forever, but this Lush tunic has finally filled the hole in my heart! It's the perfect basic and I can't wait to pair it with leggings and boots  when it gets cooler. Pumpkin spice latte on the side, please. #Basic4Life

Now I'm going to be completely transparent about these jeans. I'm in love with them, however, they are about 10 inches too long so after I took these pictures I sent them back for a short size. I'm 5'2 on a good day, so jeans can be a struggle but I did what I could with what I had and thankfully, Express looks out for the short girls. And OMG, these shoes. I bought them earlier in the Summer and literally every time I've worn them I've gotten compliments! {And lucky for you, they're on sale everywhere!}

I love Mondays. There's something about a fresh start and a week full of possibilities that makes my heart happy. I hope y'all will enjoy yours, too!

Friday, August 7, 2015

Happy Weekend, friends! Each Friday on girl(ish), I'll be sharing some of my favorites from the week and I would love to hear some of yours! Please feel free to share with me in the comments below or on any of my social media networks.

Katey's wedding planning tips on Chronicles of Frivolity are a must read for brides! There are so many things I wish someone would have told me when I was planning and she hits the nail on the head.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NLT). I read this verse Monday and it set the tone for a killer week!

The Skimm. If you're anything like me you may not enjoy watching the news. I love keeping up to date on current events and knowing whats going on in the world but the news usually makes me so sad. The Skimm is a fresh and witty daily email newsletter that keeps you up to date without dragging you down.

Brighton shared her first #BeingBrightWithBrighton video and it is so raw and relatable. She's sharing her love for The Lord and I'm so excited for the next video! Make sure to subscribe to her blog and YouTube channel for new videos.

It's National Peach Month! This recipe from my pinterest is the perfect way to celebrate. Every time I bake it, someone asks for the recipe!

Have you seen Baublebar's new Fall arrivals? I have so many saved but this, this, and this are at the top of my list!

These fringe booties and this bag are currently in my Nordstrom cart. #swoon

If you're not familiar with BlogLovin it's an easy way to follow all of your favorite blogs in one, organized place. To stay current with girl(ish), you can follow me on Bloglovin by clicking the heart icon in the top right corner of this page.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Matt and I don't have any specific plans but if you know me, you know it will probably include brunch. Or dessert. Or both? I just really love food.

all white outfit with tan accents

Express Barcelona Cami with Express jeans

White on White outfit for Summer

White Express Barcelona Cami

Express tan wool hat

cognac kate spade handbag
Top: Express | White Jeans: Express | Hat: Express {sold out, here in black} | Handbag: Kate Spade {old, similar here & here} | Sandals: Tory Burch | Watch: Michael Kors {old, similar here} | Bracelet: Alex and Ani | Bracelet: Baublebar | Bracelet: JCrew {old, similar here}

I know wearing all white can be a little intimidating. If your shades are too different it can look dingy, and if you go too white you may end up looking like Casper. I find that mixing fabrics and incorporating the right accessories is key to making this look achievable. I have a slight obsession with anything cognac or tan, and it's the perfect color to make your all white outfit look fresh and put together. Labor Day "rules" aside, I'll be throwing an oversized cardigan over this exact outfit as the months get a little cooler.

I wore this look last Saturday to a coffee date downtown Spartanburg with Matt and we had so much fun! If you're a local or if you're visiting, you have to check out Little River Coffee Bar. Their new Dottie's Toffee frappuccino is to die for!

I hope everyone has had a great week so far. We're almost there, weekend.
