Tues Truths Vol. Three

 {image source is from yesterday's She Reads Truth devotional. It was a beautiful one! These devotionals are always my favorite and the app is wonderful!}

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 {NIV}

"But the greatest of these is love." {emphasis added}

A thought so simple, yet so easy to forget. I don't have very many words for y'all today, but I do hope that you will remember this. Nothing is possible, or worth anything, without love.

If you pay attention here on girl(ish), you'll notice most of the clothes I share are fairly inexpensive. I may spend a little extra money on a bag or a pair of shoes, but my style changes so much that I can't justify spending more than $50 on a shirt. Truthfully, $50 seems a bit excessive. I almost always wait for sales and I love a good deal. I definitely get it from my Mama. I also really just like to save a little money, haha! I want y'all to to click on a link and get excited because the item you love is in your budget! I want girl(ish) and myself to be relatable. I want my readers to feel like they can come to this blog and get realistic fashion, beauty, and life inspiration. I truly hope y'all love it here, and if there's ever anything you want to see, or if you've found something a little overpriced and you want me to find a dupe for it, please let me know. I'm here for y'all!

I think this sweater totally fits into this ideal. Seriously, it's a $25 leopard sweater. What more could you want from me?! I couldn't find this exact vest but I did link a similar, inexpensive one from Old Navy. Everything else is linked above and below, as usual!

I hope y'all had a great weekend! I ate a ridiculous amount of pickles and popcorn, watched Pitch Perfect 2, Cinderella, and way too many episodes of One Tree Hill on Netflix. That's what a rainy weekend gets you in the Sumner house. But hey, I'm not complaining. I needed an Amanda minute.

Friyay Favorites No. Eight + A Living Truth Jewelry Giveaway!

Bracelet: c/o Living Truth Jewelry | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Hey friends! How excited are y'all for Friday?! Along with the usual favorites, I'm extra excited because I have one last giveaway for y'all! My friend Brittany has recently launched her own jewelry line called "Living Truth Jewelry" and I adore it and the idea behind it! Brittany's jewelry is hand crafted, semi-precious stone scripture jewelry, inspiring women with God's truth. How awesome is that? Each Bracelet has its very own bible verse that you can look down and see every time you wear it. Having a bad day? Just take a look at your wrist for a sweet reminder of God's grace!

Entry is really simple. All you need to do is like Living Truth Jewelry on Facebook and follow them on Instagram. Come back and leave me a blog comment letting me know that you did and you're entered!

***Giveaway ends September 27, 2015 at 11:59 PM EST. Open to U.S. residents only. Although I received these earrings courtesy of Living Truth Jewelry, all opinions are my own. Winner will be selected by random.org and will be announced Monday morning. Good luck!
And what would a Friyay be without some favorites:
First and foremost, did y'all watch #TGIT last night?! Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder were all so good. I've been a die hard Grey's fan for yesterday and I love anything Shonda Rhimes writes!
 Speaking of #TGIT, Viola Davis' Emmy speech was so inspiring! It's only a few minutes and it's definitely worth watching!
Another article on why running late really does just make you rude. Can y'all tell it's a massive pet peeve of mine?!
What happened when I lived according to the Pinterest Popular page. Y'all, this is hilarious and so accurate.

I would so do this for Cruise (my dog), except it would be more aesthetically pleasing.

And two, it's a red plaid scarf, and who doesn't love a red plaid scarf this time of year?! I may already have a few, but this one is my new favorite. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but it would also be perfect for Christmas!

 If you're local and you've never been to Two Doors Down in Spartanburg, you really are missing out. They carry brands such as Jack, BB Dakota, Level 99 and more! Tuesday Truths Vol. Two

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work." 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Our pastor touched on this verse on Sunday and it really hit home with me. It is incredibly powerful. Too often, we compare ourselves and our gifts to others. I mean, I know I do. But in this verse, Paul reminds us that our gifts are given to us by the same Spirit. The same God. Our gifts may differ, but that doesn't disregard their importance or mean that one is better than the other. What matters is how we use these gifts. It's how we serve others with these gifts that matter. It's how we love each other and how we witness for Jesus. I fully believe in serving and supporting those around you, in every aspect. For me, life is about love, and fostering relationships with people who believe the same thing. And even people who don't. It's about finding people to learn from and grow with. People who will bring you closer to the one who so graciously gave you these gifts. I am forever grateful to God, that He has sent these kinds of people with beautiful servant's hearts, to be a part of my life since my salvation, and even before. I am surrounded by wonderful family and friends, and an amazing husband, that I know I wouldn't be so blessed to have without Him.

I've talked to Matt a few times about a concern I have within myself that I'm not a great "witnesser". I've always felt like I'm awful at talking to people about Jesus. When I posted the first "Tuesday Truths" last week, he reminded me of my gift. Although I may struggle with having a one on one conversation with people, I can write for y'all with the hope that it impacts you in some way.

As I mentioned last week, I would love for y'all to share your thoughts with me. Whether it's about this specific verse and post, or a verse or thought that's on your mind. You can comment or email me if you want it to be private. My email is thegirlishblog@gmail.com

Hope y'all have a great Tuesday!

Tuesday Truths

(image source)

My love for Jesus is a huge part of who I am. In fact, it's the most important. I know this is predominately a fashion blog but when I started girl(ish), I knew that above everything else, I wanted to be able to share my faith with y'all. In comes Tuesday Truths. Each week, I want to share with y'all a bible verse with some thoughts/feelings on that verse, and I would love for y'all to get involved. I want Tuesdays on girl(ish) to be a place you can visit for joy and inspiration, and a place where you can get to know the girl behind the blog. If there's ever a verse or a thought you would like to share with me, please do! You can always email me if you aren't following me on other social media outlets. thegirlishblog@gmail.com

Please know that I am in no way trying to force my religion on you. I'm just a girl with massive heart for Jesus, who wants to share part of who I am with y'all. I hope you'll enjoy!

The first verse is one that I think of often, and one that most people know. Jeremiah 29:11 says "'For I know the plans I have for you' declares the Lord" and man do I need that reminder quite often. If you know me well, you know that Matt and I have had some serious struggles over the past couple of years. Nothing we've planned has worked out the way we intended. From babies to finding a new home, and everything in between, it's been rough. But no matter how rough, it's been one of the most rewarding times in our lives. We've been humbled and we have learned so much. So much that only Jesus could teach us. It's because of His love for us that we made it through. His plans really are substantially greater and more perfect than we ever realize. It isn't until we start to see how things would have unfolded if we had received what we wished for, that we become grateful. To quote Garth Brooks, "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers".

I'm an optimist, only because I know that Jesus always has my back. I pray that in the worst of times, you will remember that He has yours, too.

Who says you can't pair black and brown together? I love the way this black top looks against these cognac pants. Actually, I love anything cognac + black together. I'm not a huge dark brown and black fan {I just can't pull it off} but cognac, as I've mentioned before, is my favorite.

Even at 5'2 {on a good day} I'm really diggin' the flare trend this year. As far as decades and fashion go, the 70's vibes take the cake! What's your favorite way to wear flares? Any that I just need in my closet? Share!

And if you're still on the fence about pairing black and brown together, throw on some leopard, it will change your mind.
