fri(yay) favorites no. eleven

The biggest favorite of the week: The Sumners are FINALLY moving! Whew, y'all can't even imagine how excited I am! It seems like this took us forever. Only 2 more weeks!

Moving means shopping, in my book. Matt ordered a couple of clothing racks for me from Ikea and I've ordered this desk, and purchased a leaner mirror last weekend. I can't wait for my "cloffice" to come together!

Express sent me an email telling me a jacket from my wishlist is on sale. If we weren't trying to buy everything for a new house, I would have ordered this yesterday.

This video Ellen's producer and his assistant walking through a haunted house is hilarious. My stomach still hurts from laughing.

I had the best birthday week! Looking forward to one more night of celebrations tonight! Have a great weekend!

I prefer day dates over night ones. Call me a grandma {most of my girlfriends do} but there's something about grabbing a cup of coffee and shopping until lunch that warms my heart. I won't lie, sometimes I'll throw on a graphic t-shirt and a pair of slip ons and I'm good to go. But other times, I'd like to get a little more dressed up during the day. One of my favorite tricks is adding a jacket and a more dressed up pair of flats. I still can't get on board with the lace up flats, so I think these strappy ones are the perfect alternative. I also have as many jackets as I do shoes, so clearly I don't think you can go wrong. I chose to wear this marbled one open, but it looks really cute zipped up too!

Now, I'm off to start the process of cleaning out my closet for the 6th time this year. Wish me luck!

Tuesday Truths Vol. Four: Birthday Edition

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10

Today is a day of reflection. It's a day I use to look back on the past the year and compare it to where I am today. Today is my 28th birthday. Not to sound dramatic, but 27 hasn't been my favorite year. We've suffered through house hunting , fertility issues, and more. But through it all, I don't think I've ever been ungrateful. I'm always grateful for the love that surrounds me, for my health, and for everything God has so graciously given me. I believe happiness is a choice, and it's something I try to choose every day. But, as grateful as I've been, I wouldn't call my gratitude living.

Voltaire said "God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well." Upon reflection, my only birthday wish is that I choose to live the one short life I have been given, exceptionally well.

I dedicate 28 to life altering magic. To answered prayers, dreams coming true, and experiencing everything I can in this upcoming year. And to accepting that when any of these things don't happen, God's plan is always more beautiful than my own.

girl(ish) BTS: Blooper Reel

I wanted to twirl. Clearly, I'm no ballerina.

Probably wishing the shoot was over. I had HIVES.

What is up with that hair? I'm pretty sure it got photoshopped out in the one I actually posted.

I call this my "oh no you didn't" face. I don't know what was happening, but that's what I see.

I was definitely trying to irritate Matt here. I'm sure it worked.

Over it. Oh and hey there pimple! Pretty sure I photoshopped you out too. Just keepin' it real.

I'm going to assume Matt said something inappropriate. He likes to do that sometime to make me smile.

I call this my "na na boo boo" face. I can make the exact noise I'm making here but that's the best way to type it. I was definitely being a smart a**.

I was falling backwards. Just trying to catch myself.

Singing Mariah Carey? If so, I can assure you I wasn't doing very well.

Falling again. Although it does look like I'm about to whip. That wouldn't be a shocker either.

I consider myself a pretty transparent person. Seriously, I'll probably tell you my life story within the first ten minutes of meeting you if it's good conversation. There might even be tears. Luckily, I'm pretty sure it's what made my husband fall in love with me so I consider it a redeeming quality.

Because I like to keep things real, I thought it would be pretty funny to share a few outtakes from most of the shoots we've done on girl(ish) so far. Matt takes all my photos, which makes it even more fun. It's been a learning process for the both of us {hence the blur in the majority of our photos up until 3 shoots ago} but it's also been hilarious. I've laughed pretty hard as I'm posting these and I hope you will too. Just a sweet reminder that this job is not always glamorous or easy and I'm no super model.

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you laugh all day! I'll be back Wednesday with a new look!

fri(yay) favorites no. ten

Apparently it was National Dessert Day on Wednesday. Am I the only one who loves a dessert in a mug? I have a problem.

ICYMI, I shared my favorite outfit on girl(ish) Monday. So thankful for the sunshine that allowed us to shoot!

I am obsessed with these booties from Target. And they're only $35!

Have y'all heard about the potential of a Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls reunion tour. It sounds too good to be true but if it is I will wait in all the lines.

This little girls hilarious birthday wish. I feel you kid, I feel you.

Does this post title make y'all hungry? Now all I can think about is a cheese plate. I swear I think about food 90% of the time. No shame. Anyways, Matt and I got back from our trip to San Antonio late last night and I don't think I've ever been happier to be home. I'm not a traveler. I'm a legit home body who loves being a Carolina girl and I'm not a huge fan of leaving. Not to mention, I miss Cruise (my dog) way more than most parents probably miss their actual children. I'm in doggy cuddle heaven right about now.

Thankfully, Matt and I had the opportunity to shoot this look really quickly Wednesday before we left for our trip. How bomb is this jacket? I'm not gonna lie, this is probably my favorite look on girl(ish) so far. Also, these shoes are only $30! And all outerwear is currently 40% off at Express so now is the perfect time to buy! I ordered this coat in Camel as a birthday gift to myself and with the sale, plus a birthday gift card from Express and rewards points, I only paid $50 for it! For a $200 coat! That's insane.

girl(ish) should be back on its regular schedule from here on out. I hope y'all enjoy this outfit! Have a fabulous week!

Travel Essentials

Matt and I are flying to Texas tomorrow for one of his best friend's weddings. I feel like the longer you go without something, the more your fear can grow. I used to be totally cool with flying but as I've gotten older and haven't flown as much, I'm a little nervous for tomorrow's trip. So, I've put together a list of things that will help me get through the flight and I hope the list will help y'all, too!

1. Headphones. These are only $16 on Amazon. Who says you have to pay $200 for a cute pair of headphones? That's silly.

2. Cardigan. I freeze. All the time. A cardigan is a must have for me even in the car, so it's definitely necessary when flying. I may even need a blanket scarf.

3. Portable Phone Charger. Because nobody likes a dead battery.

4. Sunglasses. Because out flight is requiring us to drive 3 hours to the airport at the crack of dawn. I can't survive without my sunglasses.

5. Hand Cream. This First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion isn't just for your hands but that's what I always use it for. It doesn't smell crazy, which I can't stand in a hand cream, and is super moisturizing!

6. Lip Mask. The air quality on airplanes are terrible for your skin so you want to be sure to keep your lips moisturized to prevent them from cracking. This lip mask is incredible!

7. A camera. Matt and I shoot are of our blog photos with a Canon EOS 70D and we can't leave it at home for such a special trip. A camera phone just won't work.

8. Water bottle. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Again with the air quality.

9. Hydrating Face Mask. See points 6 and 8. This mask is super easy to apply on the flight because all you have to do is wipe it off with a tissue or wash cloth. It's by far the best hydrating mask I've ever used. I love all of Glamglow's masks!

10. Socks. Again, I freeze. And I have pretty terrible circulation. Being cold puts me in a bad mood so I want to do anything I can to prevent it.

11. Eye mask. Just in case I'm calm enough for a quick nap.

12. Makeup bag. For your face mask, lip mask, hand cream and etc.

13. iPad/iPad Cover. For watching Big Bang Theory on the flight.

And of course, you'll need the perfect tote bag to carry all of your essentials. Some of my favorites are here, here, and here.

Because we are traveling, there will be no Friday post this week. I'll be back on Monday! Have a fun weekend, lovelys!

Tuesday Truths Volume 3 {#IAmHis}

"He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted." Job 5:9

I believe in miracles. Probably because I see them every day. I seem them in my 16 year old baby sister, who was conceived against all odds. I see them in the beauty of salvation, and all around me every day. But most recently, I've seen them so clearly in my life.

Matt and I have been going through what we call a "season". It's a time in our lives that has been rough on us, but we call it a season because we know this too shall pass. A friend of mine sent me a quote recently by Paulo Coelho that says "Life has a way of testing a persons will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen at once." There has never been more true words to describe our lives but, we've seen the miracle and proof of passing so much recently, through good news and answered prayers, and we know everything we've gone through has been for a reason.

I want to remind y'all that no matter what you're going through, God has a plan for you. When things don't work out the way we think they should, we have to remember that His plan is so perfect, down to the smallest detail. When you feel lost, or overwhelmed, allow Him to wrap his arms around you. Immerse yourself in the peace and comfort He has to offer and know that His love for you is enough.

September Monthly Favorites: Beauty Edit

YSl Black Opium Perfume. I received a free sample of this perfume when I ordered some Stila eyeliner from Nordstrom and I am obsessed. I'm super picky about perfumes. I have insane allergies so some of my favorite smells end up irritating my nose but, not this one. It's floral while still being edgy, and perfect for day and night.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed - Champagne Pop. It makes my heart sad this highlighter is limited edition. It's the perfect peachy pink highlighter and it does a great job at highlighting everything but my imperfections. It really is beautiful and I love that it's something Jaclyn Hill helped create!

Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder. I've been using this for my under eye area and it does a great job at preventing creasing. It's also great for the new "baking" trend that's going around in the make up world if you ever wanted to try that. I purchased the travel size and I feel like it will last me a while.

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Creme Cup. Before I dyed my hair, pinky nudes weren't my favorite on me. I always felt like they washed me out, but not anymore. This is by far my favorite lipstick I've ever worn. Super moisturizing and very pigmented for a lipstick with the name "sheen" in it. I don't think you could ever go wrong with a MAC lipstick.

Kenra Shine Spray. It does what it says. It makes your hair super shiny and I love that it's a product specifically deigned for just that. It's something I look for in almost every hair product I buy and this stuff delivers.

I apologize for the lack of outfit posts. With all this rain, we haven't had an opportunity to shoot anything! No worries, I have a ton of looks planned and will hopefully have one up for y'all on Friday!

Friyay Favorites No. Nine

It's October! My favorite month of the year! It helps that my birthday is the 20th. ;)

I'm seriously obsessed with everything from Forever 21 right now. If you're looking for an inexpensive faux fur vest, they've got you covered!

Did y'all seeee Katey's wedding dress?! She is stunning, it is stunning, and now I want to get married all over again just so I can wear one like it!

I love a good cheese board. Perfect for date night, a party, or a girls night, you really can't go wrong. Ree Drummond shows you how to assemble the perfect one here.

This dog tucking in this baby is the cutest thing I've ever seen. I can't even.

We've been drowning in rain for over a week in South Carolina now and thanks to hurricane Joaquin, that's not letting up anytime soon. Perfect time to break in those Hunter Boots.

I hope y'all have a great weekend! I'll probably spending it with Netflix again thanks to this weather. Stay dry, friends!
