Top: Express  {Forever 21 similar here} | Skirt: J.Crew | Booties: Nordstrom | Beanie: Target

We are entering my favorite time of year and I couldn't be more excited. It's Christmas time! I feel like every time I turn around, I'm adding something new to my December calendar and I love it! Spending time with our friends and families is the best way to celebrate and I plan on wearing this skirt on repeat for the entire season!

Seriously, could you even find a more perfect skirt for Christmas? This plaid is gorgeous and can be styled in so many different ways. Dressed up as much as I'm wearing it in this look, or with a long sleeve t-shirt, puffer vest, and riding boots. I had to throw this red beanie on for a second option because y'all know how much I love a beanie. I swear I buy a new one every time I go shopping! Or even if I just run to Target for "one thing".  Just like every other girl, right?

What are y'all most excited for this Christmas season? While I love the fun events with friends and family, Christmas morning opening gifts and celebrating Jesus is my favorite part!

Holiday Gift Guide for Men

holiday gift guide for men, holiday gift ideas for men, holiday gift guide

Jack Black Gift Set
Ever since I bought Matt a tube of Jack Black chapstick a few Christmases ago, he basically wants anything with the label on it. It really is a good quality brand and this gift set gets you half off some of the must haves!
Wolverine Chelsea Boot
Every man I know loves the brand Wolverine for boots and my husband is no different. He's had his for a few years now and swears by them. They really will last the man in your life years.
 Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Book
Every man needs a copy of Huck Finn. The classics are a perfect, inexpensive way to add to his collection.
Tie Bar Sock Set
I've heard great things about the tie bar and definitely plan on ordering a set for Matt!
Safety Razor Set
Another thing Matt swears by. When I say my husband is a man's man, I mean it. He really should start his own blog. And for reference, his favorite is The Art of Manliness.
Tommy John Deep V-Neck Undershirt
I know the price tag on this undershirt seems crazy, which is why I only purchase them as gifts, but they are the perfect undershirt. The neck line comes down low enough to hide under any shirt and it does not move after you put it on. And it's softer than most blankets, so there's that.
Nespresso
This may or may not be on my Christmas list, too. I think the exact words from my mother were "I hear ya" because I want a $200 coffee maker but, if you drink coffee like The Sumners do, it's totally worth it!
Daniel Wellington Watch
Another one on Matt's wishlist {the women's version is on mine!} that I think every man should have. A nice leather band watch is necessary!
Saddleback Leather Briefcase
I bought this briefcase for Matt after he found it on the same blog I mentioned above, and it was definitely the best purchase I've ever made for him. He lit up like a little boy and he's used it every day ever since. The quality is incomparable to any other brand for a briefcase and it smells so good for a long time after you receive it!
Ray-Ban Aviators
Classics and must haves! For men and women, really.
Nordstrom Moccasin Slipper
Hardwood floors are cold in the winter! Don't let his feet freeze, ladies.
Topman Pea Coat
I bought this for Matt two Christmases ago and he made sure I put it on the gift guide this year. He loves this thing!
Tactical Knife
We bought this as a gift for a Chinese Christmas gift exchange one year and Matt ended up hoping he would get to choose his own gift. Not something I really understand, but again, he made me put it on the guide!
Vineyard Vines Tie
Every man needs a tie, especially if you're like my husband and have to wear one every day. When I asked him which brand was the best he said you can't go wrong with a Vineyards Vine tie, and all men definitely need a similar blue one!
Moscow Mule Mugs
Have you ever had a Moscow mule? They are the best! Or if you're from Spartanburg, Willy Taco sells a Mexican Mule with tequila and its amazing. A drink that amazing needs its own cup.

I have to admit, clearly I got a ton of these gift ideas from my husband. He's the best man I know, so I really love and trust him for his opinions. If you have a husband like mine, he definitely deserves to be treated!

Holiday Gift Guide For Women

holiday gift guide for women, holiday gifts, gift ideas for women
Express Pom Beanie
I feel like beanies are the accessories of the season. Not that I haven't always loved them, but brands are really upping their game this year! I love this marbled one because it will go with a ton of outfits, keep your ears warm, and it's got the cutest pom on top. Obsessed.
Minnie & Emma Phone Cases
Minnie & Emma Phone Cases are my favorite! I love the buffalo plaid for Winter and the marble for year round. I plan on getting a new phone this week and will definitely be purchasing the marble one! I'm a sucker for marble.
Baublebar Monogram Necklace
Every girl needs a monogram necklace but, I feel like it's not something we usually buy for ourselves. My husband got me one as a wedding gift and I love mine! Men, take notes.
Diptyque Mini Candle Set
For the price, this candle set is a steal! I haven't smelled a scent of Diptyque candles I dislike yet, so this is perfect!
Kate Spade Dot Shaker
Mixed metal polka dots. Need I say more? Now I want a martini. Mostly olive juice, please.
Kate Spade Travel Mug
If you work in an office, this mug is a must! I can't survive a day without my coffee and if I had to drive to work every day, I would have already ordered this one!
Tory Burch Perry Tote
The number one tote on my own wishlist that I keep putting off purchasing. I seriously love anything cognac! I'm talking myself into it as we speak.
Patagonia Better Sweater Jacket
I need a new black jacket and I'm kind of over my NorthFaces. All of my girlfriends swear by Patagonia and I really trust their opinions! Those opinions are the same one that made me add this to my Christmas list.
Target Plaid Blanket Scarf
This scarf is only $20! Are you kidding me?! Perfect for a gift and to wear through the Holidays!
Express Plaid Blanket Scarf
I bought this scarf last year and I love it. I wear it more than I care to admit annnd it's on sale right now!
Target Cold Weather Faux Fur Scarf
I don't own anything like this scarf but I definitely wanna try one out! Just another fashionable way to keep the women in your life snuggly and warm.
Express Fedora
Again with the cognac color. This hat will go with everything! I have one very similar and it's in a constant rotation throughout all seasons. 5 day hair needs hats.
I Woke Up Like This Mug
None of my coffee mugs match. I think most girls are like me in that they love cute coffee mugs. And at least when I'm drinking my coffee, that mug isn't lying.
Tory Burch Reva Flat
The number one item in general on my wishlist. I still don't own a pair of Tory flats but I want these so bad and I know you do, too! They really are must haves!
YSL Black Opium Perfume Gift Set
I am picky about perfumes but this one is perfect! It's girly and edgy at the same time, which is what I'm always looking for. And the set comes with a roller ball which I think is a must to keep in your purse!
Baublebar Square Initial Ring
It's just so dainty and perfect for a sweet little gift. I even think these rings would make great bridesmaid gifts!

It was hard narrowing down my favorites for this gift guide because I'm definitely a "want want want" kind of girl! That means I'll have a few more up for your before Christmas arrives! Be sure to take care of the sweet ladies in your life, and even yourself, this Holiday season!

Coat: Express | Leggings: Express | Shoes: Dillard's | Handbag: Tory Burch | Sunglasses: Nasty Gal | Lips: e.l.f Cosmetics Moisturizing Lipstick in "Marsala Blush" {c/o} The perfect MAC Whirl dupe!

Ever walk out of the house feelin' like a badass only to take a crappy photo? Yeah, that's how I felt about most of these we took for this look but, I still love the outfit so I wanted to be sure and share it with y'all. Just bein' real.

Temperatures dropped here in the South over the weekend and this coat was my saving grace. I know I've said it before, but I freeze in baby like cold weather! And it's not the Holiday season without a pair of faux leather leggings!  I've had this Express pair for years and they never disappoint!

My brain is going bananas this morning but, I'll be back tomorrow with your first Holiday Gift Guide! Happy Monday, friends!

friyay favorites no. twelve

hello there door mat
 Door Mat: Lulu & Georgia | Shoes: Tory Burch {Ratchet toes not included.}

The Christmas version of the J.Crew skirt from Wednesday's post. I ordered it. Actually, my sweet husband ordered it. He's the best.

These sequin pants and sparkly top from H&M. Oh and these penguins. All necessary for holiday parties and events and all coming home with me.

This ridiculously gorgeous apron from Anthropologie. I may or may not have texted it to my Mama for Christmas. I'm still a child, y'all.

I think I've finally found my nightstands. One Kings Lane always comes through.

I updated my Wishlist on the sidebar. Be sure to take a look for all sorts of fun new stuff!

And clearly by all of my favorites, the holiday shopping bug has hit me hard. Your first gift guides are coming next week! Have the best weekend, lovelies!

Southern Prep Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration

thanksgiving outfit idea
1. H&M | 2. Baublebar | 3. Nordstrom | 4. Nordstrom | 5. Nordstrom | 6. J.Crew

Wouldn't be a holiday without a little outfit inspiration, now would it? I plan on eating somethin' serious on Thanksgiving. Seriously, I love food. Especially Thanksgiving food. I love to cook it, bake it, and eat it. All of that means that there is no way I'm wearing a pair of jeans just to unbottom them halfway through my second plate. I'm just being real, y'all.

But, I still want to look good. Every day is a runway, am I right? That's where this sweet and stretchy J.Crew plaid skirt makes all of my Thanksgiving table dreams come true. It comes in an additional print that I already plan on wearing for Christmas. The colors are perfect! Mix in some prints and a vest to keep you warm, and you've got everything you need for a special holiday with the people you love.

You also can't go wrong with an oversized turtleneck sweater + leggings, a trapeze or sweater dress + blanket scarf, or a furry vest paired with anything because I'm in love with this one. Or this scarf cover up, coming to the blog next week!

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Anything extra special? Again, I'm here for the food and fashion. But aren't I always?!

Favorite Home Finds + Wishlist {Edition 1}

Moving into a new home {after waiting FOREVER} is a super exciting time. I have so many ideas but I don't have a crazy unlimited budget. We tossed basically all of our furniture to replace so all of that takes first priority. Meaning, small decor objects might have to wait. Sooo I put together a little wishlist, mostly for me to come back to when I can actually purchase this stuff, but also because I really want to share some vibes from our new home with y'all. Pineapples and ginger jars are our main themes {plus gold everything because that's just me and a little bit of giraffes because they are my favorite!} and I'm finding so much I can't wait to work with. Pineapples mean hospitality and I can't wait to be the most hospitable, hosting, housewife ever. I'm not even a little ashamed of that statement. Enjoy the inspiration!

For reference some of my favorite places to shop for home decor are:
Anthropologie {I did buy this pretty gold pineapple Christmas tree ornament and the best oatmeal cookie candle ever made!}

Jacket: Express | Top: Nordstrom | Leggings: Nordstrom | Booties: Nordstrom | Beanie: Almost Pink {In Spartanburg, Instagram Here} | Necklace: Baublebar

Brrrrrr. It's cold here in SC today! I'm not a huge fan of Winter weather because I legit can't stand to be cold. That's one of the bajillion reasons I'm extra obsessed with beanies this year! My ears get cold if it's under 70 degrees and beanies are the most adorable way for me to keep them warm. I bought this one from one of my favorite local shops here in Spartanburg but I will be doing a round up of my favorites soon. I feel like I buy one any time I go somewhere.

Also, I'm a freak for leather jackets. I won't even admit how many are in my closet but the Express "(Minus the Leather) Jacket" is my all time favorite. I have it in black too, and I love the zipper detailing and the stretch it offers around my waist and arms. I hate to feel stiff in a jacket so this one is perfect for me!

I'm planning some fun Holiday posts over the next month or so and would love to hear some feedback from y'all. What are you interested in seeing? Any specific looks? Let me know and I'll try to put something together for you! Hope y'all have the best week!

Must Have Winter Coats

2015 winter coats

I'm hooooome. And by home, I mean in my new house. My new, no furniture, clothes and shoes everywhere, but still so cozy, new home. I'm blogging from one of the only two grounded electrical outlets I can plug my computer into right now, but I'm so happy I could explode. This is the first time I've opened my computer in 9 days and it's been a nice break but I'm so ready to find my new normal. I'm definitely the kind of girl who loves a routine.

Chaos or not, I'm still online browsing like it's my job. Maybe it is? Who knows. Anyway, for me, a new coat is one of my favorite items to purchase as it gets colder. I freeze, so anything beautiful that still keeps me warm is a winner in my book. I have my eye on a few and wanted to share some of my must haves with y'all.

Out of all of these fun Winter coats, the yellow shag one is my favorite. It's edgy and non traditional in a way that makes me swoon. And while I'm clearly obsessed with the color olive for Fall, I'll never stop loving my camel nudes. This double breasted cape "flew" to the top of my wishlist as soon as I saw it. How gorgeous?! I'll never be able to choose just one for the season. Of anything. Ever.

Stay warm, y'all. I have a feeling the South is about to get hammered for Winter. And not off of champagne.

A Quick Update

Hey girl(ish) babies! How's everyone's Monday? I hope everyone had a fun Halloween weekend! If you're anything like me, as soon as Halloween is over you're ready to start celebrating Christmas. I know, I know, I've got some haters but this doesn't mean I don't love Thanksgiving. I just love Thanksgiving with a Christmas tree. I like shiny things. Sue me.

Anyways, back to the update. I'm sure you've noticed I took last week off. It's been crazy over here in the Sumner bubble and we have a lot going on. We move into our new house on Friday and it's been a little chaotic trying to get everything ready in time. This is where the "life" in "life and style blog" comes into play. Over the next month I'll be integrating a little more life into this blog, especially when I can't shoot because of all of this rain, but mostly because I should have some fun stuff to share as we transition into our new home. This is not to say the "style" end stops. Truthfully, you shouldn't notice much of a difference, other than the absence of posts this week and the addition of some fun real life stuff.

Things should go back to normal once we get settled, and I'm hoping that will start next Monday. I do plan on vlogging the move and sharing our progress with our new home. It's a fixer upper and we are starting from scratch with furniture, decor, etc., so expect to see some fun home themed posts like that. I am SO excited and I hope y'all will enjoy the extra girl(ish) fun around here!

I'll try to get some posts up this week but if not, I will see y'all in a week!
