Toddler Gift Guide

toddler gift guide 2017

Happy Monday, friends! How was everyone's weekend? It was chili and rainy here and we stayed inside much more than usual but I'm okay with it. I just filled in my November calendar and it's apparent Jesus knows I like to stay busy this time of year. I'm not sure of the next time I'll have a free day but I secretly love it.

I know it may seem a little early for gift guides, but if you're like me you like to get a head start, especially on the kid stuff. I'm so excited for Christmas this year because it's the first year Sam may semi understand it. His big gift from us is this Pottery Barn Kids Kitchen with the accessories to go with it. His Papa built him a kitchen helper because he loves to cook with me so much and I just know he's going to be obsessed with it. I know Matt secretly wishes it was a tool shed, but the kid spends so much time with his Mama that he loves a lot of the stuff I do. His future wife will thank me one day. I just know it.

1. Dyson Pretend Vacuum: Does your toddler love to help you with chores? Mine does and he's obsessed with helping me vacuum. Right now he uses this corn popper toy to help but I know he would LOVE this one! It looks so real!

2. Tickle Me Elmo: It's back, y'all! My Mom actually already bought this for Sam for Christmas and I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it. He loves any stuffed animal that sings and dances. We've already been through two dancing Mickey's. Yes, the Hot Dog song stays in my head.

3. Pottery Barn Kids Blue Train: Sam loves anything with a string to pull and I love neutral toys. I know I can't be the only Mama who feels like she's drowning in bright colors. I know the colors are good for them but anything to tone it down just a little and I'm on board.

4. eeBoo Alphabet Tower: One of Sam's current favorite things to do is stand up and see how high he can stack his blocks. These Alphabet Tower Blocks will be perfect for that! I know all kids his age would love these!

5. Pottery Barn Kids Silver Kitchen Appliances: Like I mentioned, Sam loves to help in the kitchen. I really appreciate any toy that looks real because typically if I buy the colored play version of something, he's not a fan. I love that these look so similar to the real Kitchen Aid appliances!

6. Pottery Barn Kids Chelsea Kitchen: Speaking of real, it doesn't get any better than this! I cannot wait to see the look on Sam's face when he sees this Christmas morning. This kid's kitchen is nicer than ours, haha!

7. Pottery Barn Kids Wooden Discovery Maze: There are a ton of similar toys on the market but I like that this one is simple. I know a lot of kids, mine included, can become easily over stimulated and I think this helps prevent that.

8. Nordstrom Shopping Cart: This is definitely another one of those "my kid likes to do what I do" toys. Anything that makes them feel like they have some independence is great!

9. Magnetic Construction Set: I took Sam to the library here in Spartanburg and he fell in love with playing with these things. They've been on our list ever since! Thankfully his Grandma and Papa have already gotten them for him for Christmas!

10. Spark Kitchen Sink: I don't have a link to this item because it is sold out everywhere but I had to mention it. If you can get your hands on it, grab it! It's the big ticket item this year and I'm so thankful after searching and getting back in stock notifications that my Mom was able to get her hands on one for us! Sam adores washing his hands and I've heard from other Moms that their kids are the same and love this toy!

11. FAO Schwartz Train Set: Technically, we will probably get this one before Christmas to go around the tree but I had to mention it. I know Sam will probably tear is apart this year but my Mom had a similar last year and he was mesmerized by it!

I hope this Toddler Gift Guide is super helpful! I'll be sharing at least one a week until Christmas so be sure to keep checking back for more ideas. Next on my list is beauty for all the ladies in your lives. Or yourselves because I know I'm not the only one who likes to buy themselves gifts. #TreatYoSelf

My Number One Piece Of Advice For New Moms

the best advice for new moms
The sweetest picture of my one month old baby Sam. Breaks my heart and melts it all at the same time. {Photography by Lotus Creative Studios}

I was lucky enough to spend last night celebrating my birthday with the very best girlfriends. Almost three years ago, Matt and I walked into the house of a couple of strangers we had never met, to join a church small group of people we didn't know, and ended up meeting a family we never knew we had. These girls are my people. They're my best friends, my fellow Mamas and Mamas to be, my soul sisters, my ride or dies. They're the people I'm the most honest with and the people I run to when I need to share my crazy. They either join me in it or bring me back down to reality. They're my sisters, in life and in Christ.

Yet, after Sam was born, they were also some of the first people I pushed away. Not necessarily by choice. I suffered through one hell of a battle with postpartum depression and in the process I inadvertently shut out some of the people closest to me. And it's the number one thing about becoming a mother that I would absolutely try to change the next go around. When expectant Mamas ask me for my number one advice on becoming a Mama, I tell them to GET OUT of the house and to ACCEPT HELP. I guess that's two pieces of advice, but to me they go hand in hand. Do not stay cooped up inside with your newborn. I know tons of new mothers want to stay inside to protect their brand new baby from all the germs of our crazy world, but even a drive through the Starbucks drive thru is good for your soul. New Mamas NEED coffee. And they make those amazing car seat covers for newborns that keep them completely hidden allowing you to walk through Target with said coffee while your baby probably sleeps through the entire trip. I was horrified the first time I took Sam and that's exactly what he did. Take the baby to hang out with people you love the most, and let those people come help you. Let them get those sweet newborn snuggles while you nap, or shower, or eat with two hands! It really does take a village. Find your people.

There are so many lists and books out there. Trimester essentials, what to pack for the hospital, how to survive life with a newborn. And don't get me started on the books on sleep {ha} and scheduling. The truth? There's no true rule book on parenting. EVERY baby is different. And what works for one may not work for another. But you know what I bet every single new parent would tell you? You need back up. You need breaks. You need way more sets of hands than you have and you need people to love you and encourage you through the process. You will be a better Mama for it, I promise.

Heyyyyy, friends! I shared this try-on haul on Instastories on Sunday evening and wanted to come on here and recap it for y'all. This way, y'all have a place to reference that doesn't go away after 24 hours! I went birthday shopping over the weekend and took a good bit of these items home. Nothing I've shared is over $35 and I'll definitely be styling some items and giving them their own blog post.

BTW, my jeans are from Two Doors Down Boutique but I also found them here. I am OBSESSED with the fit of these. I'm a 5'3 and a size 4, sometimes 6 and the 27 fit me like a glove. I'm a hippy girl and a little thicker in the highs and these are SO flattering. I HIGHLY recommend them.

 Do y'all enjoy these types of posts? What are your favorite stores? Any specific try on sessions you would like to see?

The best thing about a rainy day? Hunter boots. Well, unless you have no responsibilities. Then it's naps, haha. I know Hunter boots are a splurge but they're truly indestructible which is why I love them. These still look brand new and I can't tell you how many times I've worn them! I like the "Original Refined" as opposed to the original ones because they're a little more snug and feminine. Add a camo cardigan and you've got the perfect girl(ish) outfit. Casual, feminine, and stylish! Btw, notice the base of this outfit. Further proof that you can do anything with this shirt and leggings combo!

I asked on Instagram, but I want to hear from y'all. What kind of content do y'all want to see for the rest of the year? Holiday gift guides, what to wear for family photos, kid gift ideas, how to host holidays, etc.? Send me whatever you have! The entire point of this blog, is for me to be here to help you. Let me do the work for you! Need me to go to a store and try something on so you can order it? I'm your girl. Want me to test a beauty product for you? I'm your girl. I want girl(ish) to be a place you come to remind yourself that you're beautiful. That you don't have to spend a ton of money or be a size 0 to be stylish and you definitely don't have to give up your love of fashion in exchange for motherhood. You can be a stylish Mama, too! And you don't have to break the budget or change who you are to do so. Oh, and if you are a size 0 with a massive budget, I'm here to help you too. I want this blog to be a place where we can all unite over our love of all things girl(ish) and celebrate each other as beautiful women!

P.S. Don't forget, I posted an H&M try on haul on Instastories yesterday and everything is currently linked on my side bar. ANNND you can take an extra 15% off your purchase with the code 6457. I'll be doing a full blog post on Wednesday rounding them up so y'all will have a place to come back to when the story disappears, but I also wanted y'all to have the code!

I turn 30 today. I'm not sure how that happened so quickly. Wasn't I just 21? Celebrating my birthday with Pint Nights and all nighters? How did this happen so quickly?! As much as I've been dreading it (and I'm not gonna lie, I have), I'm so grateful to be here. To be 30. To be celebrating with the loves of my life, my precious boys. I packed a LOT into my twenties. I went from being a young adult who had no clue what she was doing or where she was going (or where she was going to live the majority of the time), to becoming a wife, mother, and someone who is finally start to figure out who she is. Though full of drama, I also made the best memories.

Memories including living with my BFF for a few of those years and having the time of our young lives. Spending way too much time day drinking on our front steps and gossiping like it was our JOBS. Said roommate introducing me to my husband. Living with my him long before it was acceptable and watching him karaoke Elvira and Strokin on our nights out like it was always acceptable. It never was, btw. Haha! Falling in love with him and dreaming and planning our future with him are the best memories. Oh, and so. many. dance parties.

Then getting engaged and married, moving a gagillion times, starting this blog, and most importantly, welcoming our precious miracle rainbow into our lives. A lot of things are different these days, but there's no memory I would change. I loved my twenties. They were crazy, but they all lead me to the best thing about turning thirty. Wanna know what that is? I have the privilege of walking into this decade from the very beginning, with my boys. And I can't wait to watch some of the dreams we shared in our twenties, come to fruition in our thirties!

I'm so thankful to Jesus for this sweet little life and all of the amazing people he has brought into it. I'm about to dominate thirty, and I'm so thankful I don't have to do it alone. People are everything, y'all. I love my people.

Of course I can't leave without mentioning this gorgeous floral dress. All the heart eyes, y'all. The gold button detail is probably my favorite part. Unfortunately it's sold out in all sizes but large but I'm hoping for a restock! I wish I could have shared it earlier!

But seriously, what better dress to celebrate your birthday? Comin' for ya, thirty. Flirty {with my husband!} and FABULOUS. Deuces, twenties.

Nordstrom BP Stripe Shirt | Zella Live In Leggings | OTK Boots {Old, Identical here} | Leopard Scarf {Old, similar here!}

In my "Top 10 favorite things about Fall" list, you'll find leggings. Everyone says "Yay, sweater weather!" and I'm over here like "But don't forget about the leggings!". I live for leggings weather! More specifically, the Zella Live In Leggings. These have been my favorite for years and have been with me through life before, during, and after pregnancy, without having to change sizes. They're high waisted so they suck you in in all the right places and never ride down. I'm serious when I say, they're my holy grail leggings. This shirt is the perfect shirt for leggings! It's super long and runs a little big so I would definitely size down. I really love it for layering and front tucking into jeans as well. It also comes in several more colors and for $19 it is totally worth picking up more than one!

My brain is fried, y'all. I've been staring at this half written screen and blinking cursor for longer than I'd like to admit. Motherhood is kicking my tush this week and the fact that I'm turning 30 in two days has me in a tizzy. I'll be back to share my thoughts on that + a GORGEOUS floral dress under $55 on Friday. Half way there, friends!

P.S. Please excuse all the extra hair frizz in these photos. I shot 5 looks in the misting rain so you might have to stare at it for a few more blog posts. Sorry, y'all!
